type='text'>My Perfect Sky

A canvas lay untouched on the ground
Toddler feet followed curious eyes
To see what treasures may abound
In this sheet of indeterminate size

But alas, there was nothing at all
Just an expanse of pristine ivory
She turned to leave and then recalled
Hues that lay beside, of every variety

So she stayed and paused to lift
A stick of colour in a chubby fist
She then proceeded to try
And paint herself a perfect sky

Blue as the ocean, serene and free
Over which the seagulls fly
Blue, as rich as blue could be
That was the infant's perfect sky

Time turned his wheels and rang his bell
Seeing out the old, bringing in the new
As the child continued to paint and revel
In her endless sky of radiant blue

But soon she learned, it needn't be
That skies were rigidly allowed
Only endless, one-shaded monotony
For what of the sun, moon and cloud?

Confidence now guided her as she went on to add
Every possible heavenly feature
Cumulus, Nimbus, Sol and Luna
In a steadier, yet juvenile hand

Seasons came and seasons went
And God's world under His sky did change
As she continued to paint and blend
Myriad shades into her unending page

Red appeared, as did vermilion
And purple, yellow and cobalt too
While she worked and strove to paint in
Stars and an aurora or two

The smudges and blurs of unkind nudges
Were glossed over by the mauve of twilight
The sting and pain of barbed grudges
Were gently bathed in pearly moonlight

It was a little child who'd begun
A dream masterpiece of a perfect sky
Now the brush was held by a woman
With her every stroke, that dream took flight

Exuberant Joy and crushing Misery
Inseperable twin companions of Life
Took turns at her side, and kept her company
As she painted, humming to a distant fife

The canvas before her, once plain and bare
Is now a riotous medley, with colours replete
She keeps on working with infinite care
But this masterpiece she may never complete

I am that woman who weaves new dreams
And unceasingly paints and endless sky
I shall go on, till my last breath it seems
To dream new dreams..... under my perfect sky
<img width='1' height='1'
